Nodely Tool 09

Static asset preparation

Less asset prep. More time for the shot.

The model is here. The work should move forward. Bring scale, geometry, UVs and textures into one Houdini workflow, create lighter versions and deliver separate files while keeping your original intact.

Why Asset Doctor

Less preparation.
More making.

Every new model should not mean another afternoon of preparation. Asset Doctor brings the repeated decisions together: get the scale right, clean what needs attention, reconnect the surface and make versions that fit the next step. You choose when heavier rebuilds run and when files are written. Your original stays available, so preparing the delivery does not mean giving up your starting point.

Inside the system

Built around
the real workflow.

Every layer is designed to shorten repeated setup while leaving the final Houdini result available for the artist.

01

Start using the asset sooner

Bring scale, orientation, pivot and grounding into one place. Work from a chosen static frame while keeping the upstream model untouched.

02

Choose the fix, keep control

Clean common mesh problems or prepare a new topology when the job needs it. Heavy rebuilds run when you choose Process Asset, so adjusting a setting does not start another rebuild.

03

Put the surface back together

Reconnect texture paths, organize sets and build MaterialX surfaces. Choose unclear map roles and normal conventions instead of letting a guess become part of the delivery.

04

Carry detail into the next version

Preserve, pack or rebuild UVs and bake with Karma or Copernicus when the surface needs a new texture relationship. Copernicus requires Houdini 21 or 22 and supports multiple UDIM tiles; UV Relax is available in Houdini 22.

05

Make room for a lighter model

Create LODs and proxies for different uses. Camera-based reduction measures the projected silhouette, including holes, to help you choose a lighter result without relying on polygon count alone.

06

Hand forward a separate delivery

Export BGEO, glTF, FBX or USD when the result is ready. File delivery protects source assets and restores previous targets if an operation cannot complete.

The workflow

From first input
to native result.

01

Choose the source

Connect static geometry or select a supported file and set the source frame.

02

Prepare the geometry

Set scale, cleanup, topology and UV decisions, then inspect the output.

03

Prepare the surface

Map texture sets and build materials; bake only when the workflow needs it.

04

Create the delivery

Build LODs or a proxy and export the selected output to a separate file.

Native by design

The setup helps.
The result stays yours.

Nodely tools create results that remain part of the Houdini scene. Inspect them, adjust them and hand them forward without turning the product into the only place where the work can live.

Questions

Before the
first shot.

01What does the $49 license include?

$49 USD per year plus applicable VAT or sales tax, calculated at checkout. An annual subscription for two devices, with updates and supported builds while active. No trial period. Renews annually until canceled.

02Will it change my original asset?

Preparation uses a static source sample and writes exports separately. Heavy topology and UV rebuilds are explicit actions. Their prepared geometry is kept for the session; after reopening a scene, run Process Asset again before building LODs, baking or exporting.

03Can I use animated or rigged characters?

Asset Doctor prepares static assets. It samples a chosen source frame and does not preserve animation, rigging or skinning workflows.

04Which Houdini versions are supported?

Houdini 20.5, 21.x and 22.x on Windows with Houdini Indie. Choose the H20.5, H21 or H22 package to match your Houdini version. Support covers these version families and is not restricted to individual build numbers. Copernicus baking requires Houdini 21 or 22; Houdini 20.5 uses Karma.

05What are the export limits?

Houdini 21 glTF combines the SOP input into one mesh, so Unity style LOD delivery uses a file per level. Non-ORM packed maps and height maps are not transferred to glTF. Material translation is limited to the supported PBR case.

06How do I install and activate it?

Use the secure access link sent to your purchase email to download the HDA and matching package JSON. Activate inside the embedded Nodely Hub tab using your purchase email and activation key. Online startup validation is required.

04How does the annual license work?

The annual license renews automatically each year until canceled and includes product updates and supported Houdini builds while active.
