Nodely Tool 03

EXR and Copernicus workflow

From render stack to editable comp.

Turn compatible EXR sources and renderer AOVs into an organized, editable Copernicus starting comp. Keep each source graph independent, refine the look through a responsive proxy path and carry approved decisions into frozen masters, LUTs, CDL files and portable look packages.

Why CompGuide

Less setup.
More direction.

CompGuide removes the repeated technical preparation between rendered layers and a useful comp. It understands frame gaps, source roles, resolution and fit policy, renderer AOV schemas and beauty continuity before building. The generated networks own their controls locally, so the artist can delete the authoring HDA and keep working with the result.

Inside the system

Built around
the real workflow.

Every layer is designed to shorten repeated setup while leaving the final Houdini result available for the artist.

01

Understand the source before building

Scan stills, tokenized sequences and folders for frame gaps, resolution, fit policy, source roles, renderer identity, AOV schema and adaptive image statistics.

02

Protect continuity across frames

Beauty Continuity keeps intermittent auxiliary passes visible but disconnected. Strict mode can stop the build when a sampled schema changes across the shot.

03

Build source graphs and a master

Create an independent graph for every compatible source and a numbered live master that handles merge, transform, fit, opacity, output versioning and quality control consistently.

04

Know what updates live

Live controls synchronize into local graph controls through the proxy Composite View path. Topology changes stay explicit as Next Apply decisions instead of causing hidden graph rebuilds.

05

Develop and carry the look

Use 44 original looks, external OCIO LUT stacks, reference matching, Look Lab, cube and CDL export, and portable look packages without storing absolute source paths.

06

Freeze and check the result

Create a new self contained frozen master without changing the live graph, then run machine readable graph, output, color, expression and timing checks before delivery.

The workflow

From first input
to native result.

01

Add the sources

Select EXR files or folders and assign their role in the comp.

02

Analyze the stack

Review continuity, renderer detection, AOV mapping and source compatibility.

03

Build and refine

Create editable graphs and adjust the result through the responsive preview path.

04

Freeze and check

Create a self contained master and run graph, output, color, expression and timing checks before delivery.

Native by design

The setup helps.
The result stays yours.

Nodely tools create results that remain part of the Houdini scene. Inspect them, adjust them and hand them forward without turning the product into the only place where the work can live.

Questions

Before the
first shot.

01Do generated graphs depend on the CompGuide node?

No. The generated graphs keep their artist controls locally and contain no channel references to the source HDA.

02Does Live Preview cook the full resolution final branch?

No. Creative adjustments use a dedicated proxy path so the full resolution master remains a separate delivery branch.

03Can a live comp be preserved before further changes?

Yes. Freeze Master creates a new self contained master and leaves the live graph unchanged.

04How does the annual license work?

The annual license renews automatically each year until canceled and includes product updates and supported Houdini builds while active.
