Nodely Tool 02

Editable lighting system

Build the light. Keep the rig.

Start from a structured lighting rig instead of rebuilding the same object, world and mood setup for every shot. MetroLights generates editable OBJ or native USD Lux lights, then keeps the important controls open for the renderer workflow in the scene.

Why MetroLights

Less setup.
More direction.

MetroLights is a layered lighting workstation, not a locked look browser. Its catalog separates what is being lit, how the world contributes, the mood of the shot, controlled light movement and complete recipes. Artists can combine those decisions, generate the rig, then continue shaping the native lights directly.

Inside the system

Built around
the real workflow.

Every layer is designed to shorten repeated setup while leaving the final Houdini result available for the artist.

01

Build in layers

Combine 136 object layouts, 24 world systems, 104 moods, eight motion systems and 100 complete recipes without collapsing every decision into one preset.

02

Place light with context

Use camera relative, object relative or custom anchor placement so the rig begins from the visual logic of the shot instead of an arbitrary origin.

03

Keep native controls

Generate an ownership aware native light network whose main controls remain available. Reset or replace MetroLights work without deleting unrelated scene lights.

04

Move between OBJ and Stage

Build a managed OBJ rig or create native USD Lux lighting in Solaris. Stage output remains part of the layer based Houdini workflow.

05

Change the mood without rebuilding

Change mood, world contribution, motion or recipe while preserving a clear path back to the editable rig and its shot level controls.

06

Support the renderer in the shot

Use Karma, Redshift, Arnold, RenderMan, V Ray or Octane through renderer aware profiles that map shared lighting intent to compatible controls exposed by the installed plugin.

The workflow

From first input
to native result.

01

Choose the lighting role

Start from an object layout, world setup or complete recipe.

02

Anchor the rig

Place the system relative to a camera, object or custom shot anchor.

03

Shape mood and motion

Apply structured layers, then adjust the generated controls directly.

04

Publish the result

Keep an editable OBJ rig or author native USD lighting in Solaris.

Native by design

The setup helps.
The result stays yours.

Nodely tools create results that remain part of the Houdini scene. Inspect them, adjust them and hand them forward without turning the product into the only place where the work can live.

Questions

Before the
first shot.

01Is MetroLights a collection of locked looks?

No. Presets are structured starting points. The generated rig and its main controls remain available for direct changes.

02Does MetroLights work in Solaris?

Yes. The Stage workflow creates native USD Lux lighting and keeps the result inside the Houdini scene workflow.

03Which renderer is the primary target?

MetroLights supports Karma, Redshift, Arnold, RenderMan, V Ray and Octane. Third party controls follow the supported properties exposed by the installed Houdini renderer plugin.

04How does the annual license work?

The annual license renews automatically each year until canceled and includes product updates and supported Houdini builds while active.
